Grant Guidelines

Primary Focus

The Hoglund Foundation promotes agencies and programs involved in education, health, and family support services that will bring about positive change in the city of Dallas, Texas, with special emphasis on:

  • Education: To enhance the learning process of individuals through classroom and teacher support.
  • Health: To improve health care through research, treatment, or new facilities.
  • Family Support Services: To help families remain intact whenever possible and provide support and training to promote family stability; support the developmental and emotional needs of children and youth with an emphasis on child abuse prevention; and to support independence and quality of life for the elderly.

We give priority to agencies and programs that:

  • Make a positive and measurable impact in the community.
  • Are innovative and promote creative solutions to problems.
  • Nurture, recognize, and reward individual and family initiative and responsibility.
  • Have sound management, including efficient financial management.
  • Are collaborative in nature so that resources are shared and the impact of the grant is multiplied in the community.

In addition to these priorities, agencies and programs fall outside the scope of our support if they:

  • Do not recognize and promote individual and family responsibility and initiative in solving problems.
  • Support governmental answers to problems.
  • Do not encourage individuals to break through the poverty assistance cycle.
  • Are adequately or more effectively served and/or funded by others in the community.

Types of Grants Considered

We consider grant applications for specific programs or projects, capital projects, or general operations. We do not consider grants to individuals. Limited endowment funds are available.

Proof of Tax Exempt Status

To be eligible for consideration by The Hoglund Foundation, an agency must provide a copy of its determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service verifying it is a tax exempt organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

Because of the Pension Protection Act of 2006, please note that if an organization’s exemption letter does not indicate specifically the 509(a) Section under which it is classified, or if it is a 509(a)(3) agency, additional documentation will be required as to the organization’s eligibility.
