Application Process
Letter of Inquiry

We require a Letter of Inquiry as the first step in the application process. This process determines if an organization fits within the Foundation’s eligibility guidelines and areas of interests before resources are expended on a Full Grant Proposal. The following must be included in a two or three page Letter of Inquiry:
- The organization’s name, address, phone number, contact person, email address, and website, if applicable.
- The organization’s mission statement, brief summary and statement of need.
- Amount of funds requested and the purpose for the funds being requested.
- Project or capital budget (if applicable) and plans to support the project along with a project timeline.
- Total annual operating budget.
- Plans for evaluation of the project or program.
Applicants must also attach:
- A list of current Officers and Board of Directors.
- Documentation of tax-exempt status from the IRS verifying eligibility.
Letters of Inquiry are accepted throughout the year and will be reviewed by the Executive Director and Program Officer. All Letters of Inquiry should be mailed or delivered to The Hoglund Foundation office. An invitation to submit a Full Grant Proposal or a Letter of Decline will be sent to the organization within 30 days of receipt of the Letter of Inquiry.
Full Grant Proposal Content
Once an organization has been notified that the Foundation will review a Full Grant Proposal, the following must be submitted within the time specified in the Grant Review Schedule:
- A detailed explanation of the purpose of the requested funds.
- An explanation as to why the agency is best suited to provide this project or program.
- Names of other community resources, if any, that are serving this need.
- Current year-to-date financial statements and operating budget.
- Most recent audited financial statement (or last year’s IRS Form 990 filed and the last fiscal year’s internal financial statements if audit is not available).
- A list of other major funding and potential funding sources or matching funds.
- A summary of the number of people served annually by this program or project and the anticipated outcome.
- Detailed analysis of the evaluation method/plan for program or project.
Applicants may provide additional information to explain further the agency or its request. This information will be reviewed only by the Executive Director and Program Officer and will not be submitted to the Board. Full Grant Proposals should be mailed or delivered to The Hoglund Foundation office. Inclusion of videos or CDs is discouraged.
