In 1989, Sally and Forrest E. Hoglund formed The Hoglund Foundation to carry out the calling they felt to serve and improve their community. Since then, their children and grandchildren joined in the family mission with a singular focus on supporting families and education in Dallas.
Forrest E. Hoglund
After a successful executive career in the oil and gas industry, Forrest now focuses on philanthropy. Over the past 50 years, he has raised nearly $1 billion for educational, civic, and charitable causes. Born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1933, Forrest graduated from the University of Kansas in 1956 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married Sally Roney the following summer and began his career in the energy industry. He now serves as President of The Hoglund Foundation and Chairman of the Board of SeaOne Holdings, LLC.
Sally R. Hoglund
Sally has been a driving force in philanthropic efforts in the Dallas and Houston communities. Born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1935, Sally graduated from the University of Kansas in 1956 with a degree in political science. She and Forrest married shortly after graduation, relocating to several cities as Forrest pursued his energy career. She now serves as Vice President of The Hoglund Foundation.
Board and Staff
Since the Foundation’s beginning, Sally and Forrest’s daughters, Kelly Compton, Shelly Dee, and Kristy Robinson have held positions on the Board of Directors. Their dedication to the values originally espoused by their parents drove them to dedicate their time to the Foundation’s efforts. Kelly has served as Executive Director since inception. Kristy serves as Program and Grant Director.
Junior Board
As the Hoglund family has grown, so has the Foundation’s leadership. The ten grandchildren of Forrest and Sally have also embraced Sally and Forrest’s guiding principles and commitment to philanthropy. This third generation of Hoglunds makes up the Junior Board. The purpose of the Junior Board is to educate and train members on Foundation operations, philanthropic service and effective grantmaking, preparing them for future participation in the Foundation. The Junior Board meets annually to discuss the operations and makes site visits to grantees.
