“Balancing business, support”
Forrest Hoglund will expound on the theme of “Perfect Balance: Business and Social Responsibility” at a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Jan 15 hosted by the Real Estate Council.
Who better to address the topic?
Mr. Hoglund is chairman and president of the Hoglund Foundation, which he and his wife created in 1989 as a way to help give back in Dallas and Houston.
The Hoglunds are deeply involved in the civic, cultural, social and business worlds of both cities.
Since its inception, the foundation has contributed more than $20 million to 500 agencies serving education, health and family support systems.
Mr. Hoglund is also chairman and chief executive of SeaOne Maritime Corp., a new company that transports liquefied, compressed natural gas, and is retired chairman and chief executive of EOG Resources Inc., one of the most active drillers of gas wells in the U.S. and Canada.
In Dallas, Mr. Hoglund is leading the $155 million capital campaign to build the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science, and he and his wife, Sally, contributed $10 million to the cause.
At the Real Estate Council’s 2009 Community Breakfast, Mr. Hoglund will explore why individual and corporate social responsibility is so critical today.
He will also explain how he manages both business risk and risks to advance the future of our community.
“Forrest Hoglund shares TREC’s belief that those who have succeeded in business should use the fruits of their success to improve the community,” said Michelle Corson, TREC president.
“In addition to addressing the balance of work and community, the breakfast celebrates the nearly $1 million in grants given by TREC this year, which would not have been possible without the collaboration of TREC’s community partners.”
Those partners are Bank of America Foundation, Citi Foundation, Comerica, J.P. Morgan Chase Foundation, Marquette Financial Cos., Wachovia Foundation and Wells Fargo Foundation.
The Real Estate Council Foundation will also honor the nonprofit projects it supported in 2008.
Recipients of TREC grants to be announced include bcWorkshop, $38,000; Dallas Housing Department, $250,000; Dallas Economic Development Department, $275,000; Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity, $100,000; Friends of Katy Trail/TREC Young Guns, $32,000; Inner-City Community Development Corp., $50,000; Joppa Rodeo, $35,000; and special grants, $100,000.
